3 Weeks on the Road - What is Coach Marc Up To?

MSC Poesia

The MSC Poesia - our home for the cruise!

Yesterday morning, I left Montreal to fly to South Florida. I'm currently sitting in my hotel room and getting ready for my 3-week journey.

So what am I up to for the next 3 weeks?

Week #1 - 2010 Softball Cruise Clinic

After 18 months of promotion and preparation, I will finally get aboard the great MSC Poesia for a 7-day cruise in the Carribbean with a great group of softball fanatics including Monica Abbott.

It's my first cruise ever so I'm really looking forward to it.

Already last night at an informal meet and greet by Reece Oslinker - the cruise organizer, I had the chance to meet many of the people I will be sailing with for the next week.

He told me there are a bit over

160 people overall. That should be real fun.

We will stop in Key West, Jamaica, Grand Cayman, and Nassau. Every day, there will some softball clinics on the boat for the players who vary in age from 10 to 18, coaches, and parents on the various aspects of softball by Monica Abbott, Dave Paetkau, Dalton Ruer, and myself.

On the last day, during our stop in Nassau, Bahamas, we will have an on-field clinic in collaboration with the local softball federation.

I heard internet access aboard cruise ships is rather very limited and expensive but there might be a few internet cafes when we stopped. If I have a chance, I will post you updates. I definitely will after too.

A little scoop for you: Softball Cruise Clinic II is already in preparation so stay tuned.

Week #2: The 2010 Vancouver Olympicsd_olympic run

After the cruise, I'm flying to Vancouver to spend a couple days at the 2010 Winter Olympics.

As some of you might know, I used to live in Vancouver for 3 years while I was coaching at Simon Fraser University and completed my Master's Degree.

Even though Montreal is home, this feels a bit like going back home where I have lived for a few for a major celebration.

You've got to be inspired and admire all these athletes that put literally their lives on hold for many years sacrificing so much just to have a chance to either just make it to the Olympics or win an Olympic Medal.

I will be there to applaud them and cheer them on.

The Morning Pier

The pier in Deerfield Beach where we will stay for the softball camp.

Week #3 - Softball Camp in Fort Lauderdale, Florida

After the Olympics, I am flying back to sunny South Florida to help out in a softball training camp with a group of players from Montreal.

Each year, at spring break, there is around 40 of them that make the trip south and escape the rigors of winter to come enjoy the sun while refining their softball skills and playing a few games against local teams.

It's a great way to recharge the batteries! I will be back in Montreal the second week of March.
Anyhow, I've got to go get ready. I will be taking a lot of pictures and some videos as well and you can be assured that I'll be keeping you posted during this whole journey.

Who loves you?

Coach Marc :)
