Avoid This Costly Softball Coaching Mistake

One of the "givens" about coaching softball is that you'll always have people that grumble, complain, and criticize what you do.

While it may seem like your season will go smoother and be less stressful if you try to make or keep everyone happy, this can actually end up being a very bad idea.

Not only is it practically impossible to make everyone (all the players and all the parents) on
your team happy, trying to do so can be one of the quickest ways to lose focus on exactly what you're trying to accomplish.

Once you allow the opinions of every one else (those outside your team and your staff) to distract you, it becomes very easy to lose your direction. And if you, as a coach, lose your direction just imagine what that means for your team.

Yeah, it's not good!

Make sure you have a vision for your team in place. Then remember to allow your vision to help guide your decisions along the way.

It's also extremely helpful to surround yourself with the right people. Make sure your staff knows and understands your vision and is 100% on board. Having a cohesive staff that's on the same page is what will make your life as a coach easier and less stressful…NOT trying to keep or make everyone happy.

Have a plan and, while you should always stay open to making adjustments along the way, stick to your guns on the values and principles that are most important to you.
