Hitting - What Makes Manny Ramirez Such a Good Hitter?

One of the best ways to be successful is to model what other successful people do.  This is a basic success principle.

There is no question Manny Ramirez is one of the best hitters in Baseball.  So, he's definitely worth studying when it comes to hitting techniques and how to be a great hitter.

Many people think there is a world of difference between a softball swing and a baseball swing. That's not true at all.

In recent years, through video analysis, we have realized there are very few differences between the swings of Jessica Mendoza, Vladimir Guerrero, Crystl Bustos, Manny Ramirez or any other great hitters whether in baseball or in softball.

The differences are style differences.

The style is what a hitter does before he or she swings or the pre-swing if you want. The pre-swing is anything that is done all the way to toe touch (when the batter steps forward and that the toes of the front foot make contact with the ground). The swing starts at heel plant (when the batter's front heel makes contact with the ground after toe touch).

The problem is that what we mostly see with naked eyes is the style because the swing itself happens so fast that we can't really see it but if you put any elite hitter side-by-side in slow motion whether baseball or softball, you'll notice that the swings are very similar in all cases but the styles or pre-swings have a lot of variations.

Here is a video of Manny Ramirez's swing that's definitely worth watching and studying:
