Fastpitch Softball Drills – Speed in the Corners

Purpose: Teaches the first baseman, third baseman, and the catcher how to handle bunt and how to pivot and throw to all bases.

Equipment: Softballs and gloves.

Players: Players are needed at all bases where the throws are going to go.

Field: Infield area.

Instructions: Position several balls around home plate simulating bunts. Have players on the first and third baselines, where a typical player would be. The players are going to work on getting to the ball, picking it up with and without a glove and practice throwing to all bases.

Coaching Cues: It is important to get the players to pivot in the proper direction and to practice this so that in a game they do it automatically.
