Free Softball Drills – Catcher-Third Base Exchange

Purpose: To have the softball catcher practice covering third when the third baseman fields the bunt.

Procedure: This drill requires two catchers, two third basemen, and one or two second basemen. The catchers, each with a ball, are behind home plate. A catcher rolls a bunt to one of the third basemen, who throws to the second baseman covering first. The catcher calls "I have third" and runs to cover the base. She receives the return throw from first base and apllies a tag at third base. The catcher then runs home in foul territory while the second catcher and third baseman are executing the drill.
