Free Softball Practice Drills for Softball Fielding - Field and Throw

Purpose: Provides fielding and throwing practice

Players: Softball infielders line up about 20 feet in front of second base. The coach stands at home plate with a player to catch the incoming throw.

Field: Use the infield.

Instruction: The first player in line assumes a low fielding position. The coach hits a ball to the left of the fielder. The player fields the ball, throws to the back-up player and returns to a fielding position. The coach hits a ball to the right of the fielder. The player fields, throws to the back-up and goes to the end of the line.

Coaching cues: Have the players stay low, shift to the appropriate side and get to the ball quickly. Mix up the ball speed for different reaction time.
