Softball Baserunning Drills – Stretching a Single to a Double

Purpose: To practice making an aggressive turn at first, and focus on the basics of base running.

Procedure: The drill needs three left fielders, a second baseman, and a catcher. Runners form a line behind home plate and a batter fungo hits a single near the left-field line. The batter takes an agressive turn toward second. If the ball isn't fielded cleanly or if the outfielder isn't alert, the runner goes to second. The runner has to visually pick up the ball as soon as she rounds first; the first-base coach helps the runner.
