Softball Batting Drills - Fence-Swing Drill

Purpose: Slap hitting drill that trains the slapper to use the inside-outside swing and to lead with the knob of the bat.

Procedure: The player stands facing a fence one bat length away. She swings without making contact with the fence, leading with the knob and keeping the hands high. She does this with the eyes open and then with the eyes closed to groove the swing. The slapper adds footwork and continues running down the fence line after the swing, as she should do on the follow-through.
