Softball Bunting Drills – Bunt-and-Run Drill

Purpose: To practice both defensive and offensive skills when bunting down the first and third base lines.

Procedure: Place players in all nine defensive positions. Place a runner on each base and have a batter bunt the ball. Position a coach on the first base line for right-handed bunters and third base line for left-handed bunters, both about 15 feet from the hitter. The pitcher winds up without a ball and simulates a throw while one of the coaches tosses the ball for the hitter to bunt. The runners react to the bunted ball and try to advance to the next base.
