Softball Drills – Glove Roll Drill

Purpose: To improve the technique of rolling the glove for softball catchers, so the glove is in the best position for reacting to the ball.

Procedure: Catcher 1 throws the ball from 20-30 feet away to catcher 2. As the thrown ball is released, catcher 2 moves the glove one-quarter of a turn to the left, so that the glove is parallel to the ground. The glove is now halfway between a palms-up catch and a fingers-up catch. From this position, the catcher can make the best decision for catching the ball.
