Softball Fielding Drills - Triangular Ground Balls

Purpose: A drill to work on fastpitch softball defense by having the infielders practice fielding emergency forehands and backhands.

Procedure: Three players stand 30 feet apart forming a box with a missing corner. One player is the fielder and she stands next to the open corner. The other two players are throwers and stand next to each other with a ball each. The thrower opposite the open corner rolls the ball to that spot. The fielder moves over, fields the ball, and throws it back. When the fielder releases the ball, the second thrower rolls the ball to the open corner, and the fielder moves over to field it and throws it back. Continue moving the fielder from side to side until 10 plays are made. Players switch positions so that they are at each of the three stations.
