Softball Pitching Drills – Pitcher's Bunt Defense with a Runner at Third Base

Purpose: To improve the softball pitchers ability to execute the bunt defense with a runner at third base.

Procedure: Pitcher 1 and the catcher are at their defensive positions, while pitcher 2 is behind the pitching area. Three or more runners are at third base. The head coach will serve as the hitter and is at home plate. Pitcher 1 pitches a ball, and the head coach bunts it. Pitcher 1 has to field the bunt and throw the ball to home plate to get out the runner, who's tried to advance home on a squeeze play. The pitchers rotate positions, and the drill sequence is repeated. The drill continues for as long as desired.
