Softball Practice Drills – Positioning Drill

Purpose: To work on softball fielding and to improve the outfielder's technique in positioning her body to make a strong throw.

Procedure: The outfielders go to their respective positions. A coach stands near home plate and hits a fly ball to an outfielder. The outfielder should round the ball to make the catch. As she makes the catch, the outfielder should continue two steps toward the target. The player should catch the ball out in front her body and above her head. She should not stop moving as she catches the ball, but run through the catch. The outfielder should finish with a crow hop and a fake throw.
