Fun Softball Drills – One-Hand LAD Bat Drill

Purpose: To develop the proper action of the lead arm, for hitting a softball, in the swing.

Procedure: Set up in an area that has a screened net or batting tunnel. This drill can be done in a garage, basement, yard, or gym. Position yourself in front of a net or tunnel with a partner (feeder) kneeling about eight feet away, just off your front knee. The feeder triggers the cocking action by dropping the throwing hand just before flipping the ball. As the feeder flips the ball, cock your lead arm backward and swing with only the lead arm, using a short, quick downward swing.

Place a batting tee in front of home plate and make the hitter take a normal stance at home plate. Move the tee to different areas in front of the plate to help the hitters practice hitting inside, middle, and outside pitches. Raise the tee to different heights in order to give hitters practice hitting high and low pitches.

Free Softball Drills – Partner Fair Ball

Purpose: To practice hitting a softball off the machine on a field with fielders.

Procedure: The pitching machine is on the mound and is set on the hitting speed and location for that day. All the players have a partner and they take turns hitting off the machine. One hitter gets to hit until she hits a fair ball. Then it's the partner's turn. There is a certain amount of time that's given by the coach for each pair combination. Fielder and base runners can also be used.

Softball Hitting Drills – Swing Hit Trainer

Purpose: To teach how to consistently groove the swing for softball hitting at different locations using a Swing Hit Trainer.

Procedure: One player grabs a bat and takes a hitting position and another player holds the extended Swing Hit Trainer and stands about eight to ten feet away from the hitter. The holder positions the trainer so that it is about two feet in front of the hitter's front hip. The hitter triggers, strides, and swings, hitting the trainer.
